Students wishing to receive an advanced placement and/or credit for previous formal education in the trade may do so only after the individual case is brought before the Rhode Island State Apprenticeship Agency, whose determination is binding.

MINIMUM ENROLLMENT

The minimum enrollment for each class is seven students.  If the minimum number of registrants is not met by noted deadline date, the class may be canceled.  Notification of cancellation will be made immediately after that decision and prior to the start date.  All money paid will be refunded if a class is canceled.

ATTENDANCE

Student attendance is critical.  In order to complete each level of the program, 144 hours of study is required by state regulations.   All students are expected to be present and ready to begin class promptly at the designated start time.  In order for the instructor to keep the class on schedule, it is expected that each student make a serious effort to attend every class.

Class hours are 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., two nights a week.  Student will be marked tardy after 6:00 p.m.  Tardiness will be marked in 15 minute increments. Entering between 6:01 & 6:15, 15 minutes, between 6:15 & 6:30, 30 minutes and so on.  Student must sign in at the office if arriving after 6:00 p.m.  There will be no admittance after 7:00 p.m.    Tardiness is disruptive and will not be tolerated.  Students are not permitted to leave after the break.  If you do so without permission you will be marked absent for the class.

If there is a work emergency and you cannot get to class, you will NOT get an excused absence.  The work hours apply to OJT and cannot also apply to classroom training.

If a prolonged absence (for business or health reasons) is foreseen, the student must inform his or her instructor of the circumstance so that the student will not fall behind in his or her level.  If a student misses more than 10 classes without informing the school, he or she will be automatically dropped.  There will be a re-enrollment fee.

Trade specific make-up classes will not be available.  Any hours needed to be made up are the responsibility of the student.  If available and you wish to make-up classes by sitting in on another RICTA class, be advised that there are additional fees to do so.  Previous arrangements must be made before sitting in on a class of the level for make-ups needed.

Attendance records are maintained at the RICTA office.  It is important that students keep track of their absents as well.  Attendance reports will be distributed or mailed out four times throughout the school year.  One copy will be distributed or mailed to the student and one copy to the sponsor.

Note: Attendance reports will NOT be distributed or mailed until tuition has been paid, IN FULL.

SIGNING IN AND OUT OF CLASS

Upon entering class, you are required to sign an attendance sheet.  At the end of class you are required to sign  the attendance sign out sheet.  This signature must be legible.   A wavy line, check mark or initials are not acceptable.  You will be marked absent if signature is not legible.  You may not sign in for anyone else.  If you do not sign out you will be marked absent for the entire class unless you have signed out at the office.
